Panel 1
Picture:A fogged Jacksonville shower: water beading on the glass door, drips falling from the shower head, and a dark bathroom fan grille above.
Caption:Nine straight Jacksonville summers. One bathroom fan nobody ever switched on.
Sound effect:DRIP!
Panel 2
Picture:Close-up of tiled shower wall where mildew freckles the grout and caulk lines, Madame Mildew's green face taking shape among the spots.
Caption:She started small — a shadow in the grout, a freckle on the caulk line.
Panel 3
Picture:Madame Mildew stretches across the whole bathroom, one hand on the fogged shower door and the other reaching for the mildewed ceiling corner above a matted bath mat.
Caption:By August she had the shower door, the ceiling corner and the bath mat under contract.
Sound effect:CREEEEAK
Panel 4
Picture:Tesa scrubs the shower tile with a stiff blue brush and a supermarket spray bottle while Madame Mildew lounges beside her, laughing in the humidity.
Caption:The homeowner scrubbed with a supermarket spray. Madame Mildew laughed in humidity.
Madame Mildew:Ahhhhhh... humidity is home.
Sound effect:SCRUB!
Panel 5
Picture:Tesa cleans the shower glass while blue arrows show air finally moving through the bathroom fan above her.
Caption:Then a deep clean arrived: grout lines scoured, seals treated, air moving again.
Aside:She was born in a shower nobody bothered to squeegee.
Panel 6
Picture:Sunset over the Jacksonville skyline and the river behind palm trees, beside a Welcome to Jacksonville Florida sign.
How it ends:Deep cleaning strips her territory back to the tile. Keep the fan running and she has nowhere to move in.
